We are just a few bone collectors who like to
hunt, fish, and share stories and information about hunting.
Some hunters will never give up their favorite hunting spots but
we don't feel that way. There is no question that our favorite
hunting spot is Maine. Whether you hunt in Maine or somewhere
else, hunting is hunting and "Hunting Camp' is Hunting Camp.
Whether it's deer, turkey, moose, bear, pheasant, coyotes, or
whatever, we have experienced with some degree of success,
hunting these animals. Mostly it's to put food on the table but
also for the sport or to
eliminate varmints.
Most Maine hunting is just that- hunting. With thick rugged
forests, many miles of hunting area, and harsh
winters reducing the numbers, it makes for large deer and moose
but requires good hunting skills or a lot of luck.
For the most part we don't do a lot of tree
stand hunting or field hunting, not that there is anything wrong
with that. Field hunting is usually very good and is quite
popular. The hard part is finding a field that's not already
being watched by several other people. Generally we trudge
through the forest checking for rubs & scrapes and good spots to
sit and wait.
Maine is not like some states where deer run
rampant due to over population. There are fewer deer which also
means some of the largest whitetails you'll find
anywhere.
Moose permits are chosen by lottery so
you have to get lucky to go moose hunting. It can take years
before your name gets drawn. So come on in and check us out.

AUGUSTA – The Maine Department of Inland
Fisheries and Wildlife and the Maine Department of Environmental
Protection have partnered with Fly Fishing in Maine (FFIM), a group
dedicated to protecting Maine’s fisheries, to place three washing
stations at popular Maine fisheries in an attempt to prevent the
spreading of “didymo” -- an invasive species of algae -- to Maine’s
rivers.
Two of the sites are on the Rapid River in western Maine, and the
third is at the Route 35 bridge in Windham on the Presumpscot River.
“Perhaps the most serious threat to Maine’s fragile aquatic natural
resources is the introduction of invasive fish, plants or other
organisms. It’s imperative that we make every effort to prevent
these introductions from occurring,” says John Boland, Fisheries
Division Director for the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and
Wildlife. “Fly Fishing in Maine deserves credit for facilitating
this effort.”
